Special Interest Section: Stories from TIDE and REAL

Tide's 'Sea of Memory' was the first long YYH story we had translated, and it will always be one of our favorites. Seono Shou's stories range from angsty to playful, but always with an underlying poignancy, richness of emotion, and genuine affection for the characters. Lots of them are cinnamon-y: warm, a little spicy, a little sweet. Nice to curl up with on a rainy afternoon, and guaranteed to drive away the blues.

Kioku no Umi (Sea of Memory)
by Seono Shou
Kioku no Umi pic: the kiss

Kurama X Hiei. Classic.
41 pages

Kurama recalls the truth about the first time he met Hiei--as a youko. A gem, wonderfully poignant, highly recommended. Translated by K-san and W-san.

Spicy means rated R SPICY  Rated R for some racy pictures and implications.
Note: This story has been edited for the general side. Three lines have been slightly altered to make it available here. (And believe me, we didn't do this lightly. We debated about it for a long time, and only brought ourselves to commit the act because the other choice was leaving it out of the general section entirely.)

The Present Stories

How it all began! We were very happy to find these, the Tide shorts that launched all the other series you see below. The Present stories led to the Hiei's Revenge stories, which led to the Welcome, Newlyweds stories, which led to all the other tales about Kurama, Hiei, and their strange little Evil Twin Tree babies. So please enjoy them with a sense of history, and, if you're just starting on this page, read them first.

But he's up against the subtle mind of a kitsune, and it's a long road to the revenge he thinks he wants.

Love Machine
by Seono Shou
Love Machine pic: the wedding night

Kurama X Hiei. Spicy (song story)
13 pages

The postscript to the 'Hiei's Revenge' series. This is a song story about Kurama and Hiei's wedding night. Sort of a PWP, but it also introduces a sort of explanation for just why Kurama always has to turn into the youko before sleeping with Hiei. The original black and white drawings have been laid over various rainbow backgrounds...um, for a festive effect. ^_^ Translated by M.J. Johnson.

Spicy means rated R SPICY  This story is rated AN EXTREMELY STRONG R for pictures and situations. We decided to include it here because 1) it has some bearing on the rest of the series, and, 2) you can see as much by looking at every love scene in every Tide story already posted, it's just more...concentrated...here. ^_^;;;;

Welcome, Newlyweds!
(Shinkon-san Irasshai!)

The sequel to 'Hiei's Revenge,' this series is about Kurama, Hiei, and the vicissitudes of married life. A prominent feature is what Kurama calls 'ore-tachi no bebi' (our babies). They're a fully-clothed, beanie-baby-sized Chibi Hiei and Chibi Youko that Kurama has magically produced from a plant, and they definitely have their own agenda. Are they cute? Too cute to live--at least, Hiei thinks so.  ^_-

Ore-tachi no Bebi

Yes, it is not over. Kurama and Hiei's babies go on to have lots of adventures, and we'll translate as many of them as possible. All the stories about this strange family have the same humor, sweetness, and unbridled kawaii-ness as the first--and the same little sharp edge that keeps them from simply being cute.

A note to prevent confusion: the little youko is nicknamed Chibiko, the small Hiei is called Hii-chan, and the miniature Kurama is Kurara.

These stories are now in the proper order,
so you can read them as Seono Shou intended!

 Moonless Night pic: Kurama sweats

Kurama X Hiei. Funny, little spicy.

Clouds are covering the moon and Hiei is looking forward to a reprieve from the youko. But Kurama not only insists they sleep side by side (with the kids, yet), he has the effrontery to ask 'Doesn't this warm your heart?' Hmm...could it be that Hiei has a heart to warm? Sweet and funny, with a lot of meaning packed into a few pages. Translated by M-chan.

With this story we introduce Chibi Pics, which are blowups of panels that have particularly cute Chibi Hieis, or interesting interactions that are hard to see in the regular size page.

Kurama and Hiei get divorced.

The power of the Seikoseki forces Hiei to come back to Kurama night after night--and the feeling of being trapped has made him angry and bitter. Kurama's response: "Take half the stone and go. I don't care where."

Morning Scenes, Part 3
by Seono Shou
Morning Scenes 3 pic: What came out of the egg

Kurama X Hiei. Funny.
35 pages

When they wake up, Hii-chan is holding a giant egg. What hatches is an almost unbearably cute chibi: a chirping miniature Karasu. Unfortunately, the new baby imprints on the highly intolerant Chibiko as its mother. Worse, it looks on the even-more-intolerant Youko Kurama as a giant version of Mom. Will the hatchling survive the night when it interrupts the youko and Hiei? And what about Karasu himself, who left the egg as part of his plan to win and wed Kurama? Translated by W-san.
