1999 is the Year of the Rabbit and this is the

This is the Hiei-bunny Art Gallery

Why do they do it? That's the question, and we'll tell

you right now that there is no easy answer. What is it that

compels some djka to draw Hiei the mighty Jaganshi

in a bunny suit?

by Maya Kaoruko:

Why?

(CLICK ON A THUMBNAIL TO SEE THE PICTURE.)

We've wondered, just as you're undoubtedly

wondering now, and we'd like to share

our journey of inquiry with you. If we may.

At first, it simply defies common sense.

Hiei...bunny suit...no. I mean, can

you imagine trying to get him into it? It would

be very difficult to catch him, much less stuff him

inside. Maybe you could blackmail or bribe him to

wear it.

A kind of big dark menacing pic of Hiei-bunny with sign

Ominous Hiei
in bunny suit,
holding sign, carrot
strapped to back,
by Fuji Shinichi:

Possibly blackmailed?

Or maybe you could trick him. Convince

him (somehow) that the bunny suit is extremely

desirable and that everyone will be very

jealous if he puts it on.

Hii-chan in his bunny suit by Seono Shou

Hii-chan struts in his bunny
suit while Chibiko bites his own
tail in an agony of jealousy:

The victim of a hoax?

Of course, things are much easier if you start

with the presumption that Hiei is a bunny.

Then there's no issue about getting the

suit on because there's no way

he can take it off.

Puipui-chan and Fuwafuwa-kun by Gurevich Kurihara

Puipui-chan the black
bunny stands resignedly
while his friend Fuwafuwa-
kun demonstrates that

The ears are real.

But then we realized that this just begs the

question 'why turn Hiei into a bunny in the

first place?' What's the message?

Is there something about bunnies that

we don't know?

Could bunnies actually be creatures of great power and

menace? Anyone who has seen 'Monty Python and

the Holy Grail' will remember that the rabbit there

was a fierce and terrible enemy. And then there was

that movie about giant rabbits rampaging all over the

country. It was on the Sci Fi channel last year at ohmigod

in the morning, so most likely you didn't see it.

But, trust me, they were really nasty.

Could there be a grain of truth in tales like these?

Hiei with droopy bunny ears by Fuji Shinichi

Hiei as bunny by Fuji
Shinichi:

A fearsome enemy?

Um, probably not. Okay. But could there be a hidden

significance to bunnyhood in Japan?

Something to do with that rabbit in the moon pounding

the mochi, and the White Rabbit of Inaba who

was saved by the god Okuninshu and all?

And, once again, this is the Year of the Rabbit.

Rabbit years this century have always brought cataclysm,

or at least change. The Rabbit is supposed to be

the luckiest of signs in the Chinese Zodiac. Couldn't

that mean something?

Hiei the White Rabbit of Mystery by Fuji Shinichi

Folklore bunnies:

Beings of majesty?

Well...

All right, maybe it has something to do with Kurama.

After all, there's a certain balance about them

both having silky ears and a fluffy tail, isn't there?

Maybe the djka draw Hiei as a bunny to

make him more comfortable with Kurama in his fox

or youko form.

Patapata hugs Puipui by Mikoyan Nakajo

Fox embraces
Banny:

Is Hiei comfortable?

Or...then again...

Look, we said from the beginning that there

was no easy answer. And the conclusion that we've come

to, after all our speculation on 'Why turn

Hiei into a bunny' is...

It's probably better not to ask.

           Lively Little Hiei-chan with carrot

Hiei with giant carrot:

Don't ask.

Really.

Hiei with carrot by Maya Kaoruko: Really don't ask.

Hiei with regular-sized carrot:

Really don't ask.

So that's our quest. We still don't know why,

and we're not going to wonder any longer. But one thing

we do know...if we see any more pictures of Hiei

in a bunny suit, especially in 1999,

we'll bring them to you.

And, yes, that is a threat. ^_^

Note on the stories, translations, and images to be found here:
don't steal them! We worked hard on them, and we've done our best to make sure that only people of the appropriate age see them. Enjoy them all you want, but don't take them and post them publicly without permission. Because if you did we'd have to come after you with a Very Large Stick and list your name in our Hall of Shame and do other terrible things you don't even want to know about.

If you want to post a story or image on your page, email us and we can talk.
